Breckland Strut Christmas Social Evening 2009 The Strut's annual Christmas dinner and social evening was held in the Norfolk Gliding Club on 2 December. A serious interlude concerned presentation of the John McLeod Trophy for services to light aviation, the award going this year to Linda Smith. When the canopy of the Eurostar she was flying shattered, Linda executed a textbook emergency landing in a farm field, despite the effects of airflow and facial injuries from shards of Perspex. She walked away; and, no further the worse, the aircraft was subsequently rolled off on its wheels for repair. Linda's service to the Strut in particular — and light aviation in general —was to illustrate the wisdom of practicing emergency drills and acting calmly in a crisis. The presentation was made on behalf of Breckland Strut by Co-Ordinator, Paul Jackson
